J a n u a r y 2 0 2 2 | Abacoa &Alton N E I G H B O R S 29 RESTAURANT TOUR What’s Cooking Submitted by Jodi Cross Get ready for the seasonal rush because Florida is driving the recovery of the travel industry. According to a recent third quarter Visit Florida statistic, Florida welcomed 32.5 million travelers. This reflects a 7% increase for the same period in 2019. Palm Beach County follows suit welcoming 1.8 million visitors up from 1.7 million in the same period for 2019. This is great news for all the restaurants, retail establishment and hotels in our county. As the restaurant industry continues to rebound, challenges continue with employee recruitment and retention, supply chain shortages, increasing wages and food costs. As a result, over 80% of restaurants have streamlined menus and raised prices. There is great optimism in the hospitality industry and new restaurants and hotels continue to open in our area. I previously mentioned Cactus Grille & Tequila Bar in the Donald Ross Village in Palm Beach Gardens. They are putting the finishing touches on their interior design. Expect a cool vibe with lots of fun drinks and food. The Tex-Mex Cuisine restaurant is slated to open in mid-to-late December. Aqua Grille in Juno Beach is the site of the old Malted Barley in the Loggerhead Plaza. They are just starting to ramp up hiring and are expected to be open sometime in late January or February. The menu is being kept quiet but think casual coastal seafood. Calling all foodies, if you are looking for something fun to do in December, check out the Palm Beach Food & Wine festival. There is an amazing line up of talent including some James Beard award winning chefs. The festival starts on December 9th and goes through the 12th. It is a progressive event with various locations and celebrity chefs. There is a Beef N’ Bourbon Experience at Okeechobee Prime Seafood, a Chef’s welcome party at the Colony Hotel and Bubbles & Bites at PGA National. A full list of all the options can be found at Palm Beach Food & Wine Festival (pbfoodwinefest.com ) . If you have not been to PGA National Resort in a while you can expect a new dining experience. PGA will usher in a rebirth of both the resort and their culinary offerings. The resort will introduce six culinary concepts - including two signature restaurants helmed by award-winning chefs. Two highlights include Honeybelle, the all-day concept and The Butcher Club offering fine dining. • The Butcher’s Club – Helmed by “Top Chef” Season 13 winner and Executive Chef of the acclaimed Stubborn Seed in Miami, Jeremy Ford, The Butcher’s Club will offer guests a high-end dining experience, opening late • Honeybelle – Led by esteemed chef, “Top Chef” alum, and Palm Beach resident, Lindsay Autry, Honeybelle pays homage to the timeless beach cafes of South Florida, opening early 2022.
