It is a hybrid fractional laser that has an ablative and non- ablative technology to treat the skin surface and deeper tissue layers to help improve pigment, skin texture, fine lines/wrinkles, scars, enlarge pores and skin laxity. The downtime for the laser is typically 3-5 days. The machine has Broad Band Light (BBL) technology as well, which helps with pigment, acne, scarring and vascular changes. When needed, BBL can be combined with the Halo to optimize the results. The difference between a hybrid laser (Halo) and nonhybrid laser is the hybrid laser can produce exceptional results in just 1 treatment. Whereas the nonhybrid laser takes about 5-6 treatments to delivery similar changes mainly in pigment. The “glow” you get from Halo is like no other. Those that have had the Halo will tell you the same. The process is as follows. Prior to the procedure topical numbing. The day of the laser you will have a “sunburn” appearance to the skin with a burning sensation that lasts approximately 2-3 hours post laser. After the burning sensation has gone away, there is no pain or wound care. Your skin will have a “sandpaper” texture. The patient will notice the pigment darkening the night after the laser and continue to darken going into days 2-3. Swelling is also noted on those days. Day 3 is considered the worse day; patients can expect to be the most swollen and pigmented on this day. We reference it as the “cabbage patch” face for those reasons. Day 4 is typically the turnaround period, where the pigment starts to come off, swelling goes down and clear skin peeks through. By day 5 all pigment has come off and patients really see the results of the Halo. A Hydrafacial is recommended 2 weeks post halo to really cleanse the skin and pull any debris left behind. What I like to tell patients, you will see your halo results within the first week, but the results keep getting better over the next 3 months. There is another cell turnover around week four, where patients tend to notice some skin dryness. That phase is self-limiting and improves with moisturizers. Around week 5-6 patient notice that halo glow to their skin. We recommend the halo at least once a year. The best time to schedule the halo is in the fall/winter. Living in Florida, we have sun exposure all year round, but those seasons tend to be best because the sun is not as intense as the spring/ summer months. I have noticed with a lot of my patient’s, pigment and skin texture seems to be the most concerning skin feature they focus on. The confidence patients feel after those areas are addressed and corrected with the halo is so rewarding in my eyes. I want to give and make those patients feel good about the skin they are in and what better way to do that then with a noninvasive procedure such as the Halo.
