22 Abacoa &Alton N E I G H B O R S | J a n u a r y 2 0 2 2 Submitted by Heather Storm Photos by Neil Cohen Photography Rabbi Berel and Sarah Barash met on a blind date, after Sarah - while studying abroad in Israel - shared an apartment with Berel’s sister. It was she who arranged a blind date for the pair upon Sarah’s return the United States and the rest is history. They were married six months later in August of 2001. The couple has 6 children, ages 19, 16, 14, 12, 9 and 8 months. Rabbi Berel Barash is an ordained rabbi. He studied at the Rabbinical College of America and at an exchange program in Brunoy, France where he received his rabbinic ordination. Sarah studied at Ohel Chana College in Melbourne, Australia and at Machon Shoshana in Israel, where she received her certifications in Jewish philosophy and psychology. Together they founded the Chabad of Jupiter in 2004. Today it is nurtured and supported by dedicated members of the local Jewish community. Chabad is dedicated to strengthening Judaic faith, principles, identity, commitment and pride. Chabad recognizes no differences between people; its goal is to serve the spiritual and physical needs of every Jew regardless of affiliation, with understanding and with love. The Center is located in Downtown Abacoa at 1209 Main Street, Suite 110. “Our passion is helping others, sometimes it means a hot meal and sometimes it’s warm words of inspiration or validation.
