Abacoa & Alton Neighbors - June 2021

J u n e 2 0 2 1 | Abacoa &Alton N E I G H B O R S 11 At a young age, Cary Stamp discovered that he was able to help people with their finances and make a difference. When Cary was in his early twenties, his grandfather, a dentist in Iowa, suffered a stroke and through poor investment decisions ended up with an IRS lien on the home where he and his wife lived. While this might have terrified most people, Cary knew that he had to spring into action and make a case with the IRS while rallying family members together to contribute funds to release the lien. This experience was a defining moment in Cary’s recognition of his calling. Although today Cary sits atop Cary Stamp & Co., a firm that serves several hundred families in over 25 states, he has never forgotten the lessons he learned from his grandfather’s missteps. In fact, the walls of his office are lined with the original stock certificates that his grandfather purchased from brokers making cold calls and promising huge returns. The origins of Cary Stamp and Co. date to 2002 when Cary, his wife Sharon, and a small team set up shop in the Lincoln Park neighborhood in Chicago’s north side. Today, the firm still maintains a presence in Chicago, with headquarters in Tequesta, FL and a northeast branch office in Stamford, CT. Although Cary and Sharon enjoyed city life in Chicago, they realized that it did not compare to the Florida lifestyle and year-round warm weather they relished. They relocated to Palm Beach County in 2006 with their daughter Sarah who graduated from the Benjamin School in 2018. Today, the Stamps enjoy living in Jupiter and the short commute to their office in Tequesta. Sharon is a board member and active volunteer with Furry Friends while Cary serves on the boards of the Palm Beach North Chamber and the Edna W. Runner Tutorial Center in West Jupiter. Sarah is a junior at Colorado College and planning a career in medical research. Cary is passionate about education and helping young people move out of poverty. Through his philanthropic work, he helped direct the $2 million capital campaign at the Edna Runner Center. He has served on the boards and raised funds for the American Cancer Society, Jupiter Medical Center Foundation, the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation, and the Cary Stamp Scholars fund through the Palm Beach North Chamber Foundation. Education is also important for his team; each employee of Cary Stamp & Co. receives at least 60 hours of annual continuing education, and Cary runs a training workshop most Friday mornings for the team of advisors. To provide the public with financial knowledge and honor his grandfather’s legacy, Cary’s team conducts pro bono financial workshops for community organizations. He also has a YouTube Channel with over 80 educational videos on topics ranging from college planning to social security. Learn more about his story by subscribing to the “Business in Paradise” podcast— available on iTunes, Google Play, and Spotify—in which Cary converses with Palm Beach County business executives, entrepreneurs, and community leaders. In 2021, Forbes Magazine named Cary on the “Best-In- State” Wealth Managers list and the firm was selected as the Small Business of the Year by the Palm Beach North Chamber of Commerce in 2019.
