M a y 2 0 2 1 | Abacoa &Alton N E I G H B O R S 31 Bethesda Hospital’s Foundation Breaks Gala Fundraising Record Raising nearly $1 million at this year’s virtual Gala of Generosity By Emily Pantelides Through the most challenging fundraising climate in the nation’s history for the Healthcare industry, the Foundation at Bethesda Hospital is proud to announce that they have broken their current gala fundraising record, surpassing 2019 in-person event numbers by a massive $455,000. Nearly $1 million was raised on March 25, 2021 at the Foundation’s virtual Gala of Generosity. Another record? More than 750 households were registered to attend the event virtually to help raise funds for their Emergency Services Campaign – the most attendees ever to attend a virtual event for the Foundation. Guests received the Foundation’s famous Party in a Box which included champagne, branded swag, and program information on the Emergency Services Campaign they came together to support. These funds couldn’t come at a more crucial time. Modernizing Bethesda Hospital East’s Emergency Department will help address the unprecedented need for emergency services in our area brought on by the pandemic. With a $15 million fundraising goal, Barbara James, Executive Director of the Foundation, sees this multimillion- dollar renovation project as more than an update to efficiency of services: “Our donors have seen the urgent need laid before us due to the pandemic and have stepped up in a way we could never have imagined. Bethesda Hospital is committed to providing preeminent level care to the community we serve no matter what the circumstance.
