I n a pivotal development for healthcare in South Florida, the Alan B. Miller Medical Center in Palm Beach Gardens has appointed Gina Melby as its inaugural Chief Executive Officer (CEO). With a proven track record in hospital leadership, Melby is poised to steer the hospital’s strategic direction, operational excellence, and community engagement. Her deep-rooted connection to South Florida and extensive experience in hospital administration make her an ideal choice for this vital leadership role. While Gina may be new to the Alan B. Miller Medical Center and UHS, she’s hardly new to the field or the area. With over three decades of experience in the healthcare sector—all within South Florida—her previous roles include serving as the CEO of Northwest Medical Center in Margate and, most recently, the CEO of HCA/JFK Medical Center in Atlantis, FL, where she spent the last 19 years. Throughout her career, Melby has been known for her ability to foster high-performing teams, establish strong physician relationships, and spearhead significant operational initiatives. Interestingly, her journey into hospital administration stemmed from a clinical background. “I started out as a physical therapist,” Melby said. “That was my career trajectory. Over the years, I was mentored and coached by leaders who saw my potential and encouraged me to explore administrative roles.” While taking the reins of a brand-new hospital comes with its own set of challenges, Gina’s experience has placed her in the unique position to build an entire hospital from the ground up. “I’ve had the opportunity to consolidate hospitals and lead large healthcare facilities, but I’ve never had the chance to build one from the ground up,” Gina said. “This is an exciting opportunity to create a patient-centered, physician-friendly environment from day one.” Melby’s vision for Alan B. Miller Medical Center encompasses the establishment of robust service lines in general medicine, cardiology, orthopedics, and general surgery. “We’re building a facility that will not only meet current healthcare needs but also allow for future expansion,” she explains. “Concierge medicine will also play a key role, ensuring personalized, high- quality care for our patients.” Accessibility will be a cornerstone of the hospital’s mission. Situated off I-95 on Donald Ross, the facility is ideally located to serve a diverse patient base, extending from Palm Beach Gardens to Jupiter and beyond. Community outreach is particularly important to Gina, who values involvement in local initiatives. “I’ve always been deeply involved in community initiatives,” she said. “I’m currently serving on the executive leadership team for the American Heart Association 2025 Heart Walk and chairing Executives with Heart. Additionally, I serve on the executive committee for the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County and hold board seats on The Economic Council and Housing Leadership Council.” In addition, education is another key aspect, with plans to work with local universities to help develop the next generation of healthcare professionals. “We will be working closely with local academic institutions, from high schools to universities, to create internships and training opportunities,” Melby said. “It’s crucial that we invest in the future of healthcare by providing hands-on experience and mentorship.” COVER FEATURE CEO - ALAN B.
