It gives people confidence and connection,” Jeni said. “That’s what makes this place so special.” When asked how she defines leadership, Licata is clear: “I define leadership as not being separate from the group. It’s being relatable to the team but also goal-driven.” Her philosophy is grounded in trust and collaboration. "I don't micromanage," she said. "I like to keep an eye on what's going on, but I trust my team to know what they are doing. And if they don't, to come see me." That leadership style, she added, was shaped by watching and learning from others. She values the role of mentorship, both in her career and for the next generation. Running an arts nonprofit comes with its share of challenges, from funding pressures to competition for audiences, and the ongoing need to stay relevant in a changing world. Licata doesn’t shy away from these realities. The balance between vision and sustainability requires constant creativity and resilience. Yet, she remains optimistic, pointing to the ArtsCenter’s steady growth and innovation. “Every year we grow, and every year we try something new,” she added. At the core of Licata’s vision is community connection. “When people walk through our doors, they feel at home,” Jeni said. “They might come for a class, but they also stay for the friendships and connections they build here.” For Licata, success isn’t measured solely by attendance or revenue, but by impact. “I want to know, did that program change something for the people who experienced it?” she said. This philosophy has helped Lighthouse ArtsCenter strengthen its role as both an artistic and social hub, where art serves as the bridge between individuals and the wider community. "Art has always been the main goal and providing the benefits of art for everyone," she said. Under Jeni’s stewardship, Lighthouse ArtsCenter continues to thrive as a place where creativity, connection, and community converge. "It's about art, but it's also about the community and the friendships made when you're here."
