Presented by Cary Stamp & Co., the nationally juried exhibition brings together 74 emerging and established artists from across the United States and features more than $4,000 in awards. Now in its fourth installment, LUSH is Lighthouse ArtCenter’s biennial juried open call celebrating innovation in contemporary ceramics. The exhibition includes nearly 90 functional, sculptural, and experimental works that reveal the extraordinary versatility of clay. Visitors will encounter pieces inspired by the traditions of the vessel alongside imaginative sculptures that challenge conventional ideas about the medium. “LUSH 4 will be the biggest presentation of this biennial exhibition to date,” says curator Anthony Record. “With nearly 90 ceramic artworks by artists from across the United States, the exhibition is an incredible opportunity to see some of the most exciting things happening in contemporary ceramics today.” The public is invited to meet participating artists during a reception on Thursday, October 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. Admission to the gallery and reception is free for Lighthouse ArtCenter members, with a suggested contribution of $10 for nonmembers. Exhibition juror Bradley Klem will extend the experience beyond the gallery as Lighthouse ArtCenter’s 3-Wings Visiting Artist. From October 9 through 11, he will lead China Painting Today: Image, Ornament, Meaning. The three-day workshop will introduce participants to the contemporary art of China painting through demonstrations and guided studio sessions focused on brushwork, pigments and firing processes. The workshop is open to artists of all skill levels, and advance registration is required. Those inspired by LUSH 4 can also explore their own creativity through Lighthouse ArtCenter’s Early Fall classes and workshops. Programs for adults and young people range from ceramics to numerous other art forms, with offerings available for beginning through advanced artists. LUSH 4
