This month, Jupiter Medical Center proudly announces the opening of its state-of- the-art Tim and Jayne Donahue Patient Care Tower, a five-story, 92-bed facility designed to enhance specialty care and clinical education. The expansion offers spacious patient rooms and specialized units dedicated to essential specialties, including oncology, orthopedics, and cardiovascular care. Innovative redesigns will streamline operations in the emergency department while allowing for increased flexibility across the hospital as patient needs continue to grow. Spotlight on Specialized Care The new tower features an exclusive medical oncology unit that promises to transform cancer care. “Having a dedicated, 24-bed oncology unit with a specialized team is a dream come true for our patients,” states Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Pamela Canter, RN, MSN. Previously, cancer patients received treatment in our general medical unit, but this new facility will provide tailored care from specialists focused on their specific needs, utilizing the latest therapies available in the field. Additionally, the orthopedic team will benefit from two entire floors dedicated to treating routine to complex injuries and conditions affecting bones, joints, and related structures, complete with on-site rehabilitation gyms to support recovery. The cardiovascular unit will see a significant expansion—from 8 to 12 intensive care beds—providing crucial support for patients undergoing heart procedures. An additional 12-bed step-down unit will ensure a smooth transition from intensive care to rehabilitation and home recovery, backed by Jupiter Medical Center's leading cardiac specialists. Adaptability and Innovation at the Forefront One of the tower's remarkable features includes the adaptable design of the 12-bed cardiac step-down unit, allowing quick conversion to intensive care beds as needed. “The challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic taught us the importance of flexibility in healthcare,” Canter notes. “We’re now equipped to swiftly respond to evolving patient needs, ensuring we can provide the highest quality care without delay.” In line with enhancing medical education, the first floor will host three cutting-edge simulation labs. These facilities will bolster training for the hospital’s team of 2,300 employees and are already garnering attention from nursing schools and medical training programs in the area. The labs will offer simulations in critical care, surgical procedures—including robotics—and labor and delivery scenarios. “There’s nothing comparable in our region,” Canter asserts. “These labs empower our team to engage in immersive training experiences, honing their skills and preparing them for a variety of medical scenarios.” Commitment to Excellence Jupiter Medical Center prides itself on the exceptional quality of care provided by its highly trained professionals. Staying abreast of the latest technological advancements, the center is focused on maintaining its competitive edge in fields like minimally invasive and robotic surgery, medical oncology, and advanced imaging techniques.
