Since the cave paintings at Lascaux, the humanistic movement of the Renaissance, and our Kindergarten creations, artwork from the historical to the personal can inspire, teach, and, yes, make us feel. When award-winning artist Helen Salzberg asked fashion artist Brittany Praver about her creatively designed handbag, " I made it " was an unexpected yet inviting response. In that moment, friendship and artistic partnership were born. Now, the Helen M. Salzberg Gallery at Palm Beach State College in Palm Beach Gardens is set to host Helen’s and Brittany’s first-ever collaboration – a monthlong exhibition beginning August 25, showcasing not only their original artwork but also the artists themselves. Helen and Brittany both acknowledge how the creative process “just takes them,” similar to an author not knowing how the novel is going to end or a songwriter not hearing the final note of a composition until it plays. Complementing each other’s styles, they share a love of art and fashion, often blending both into their unique works of art. “We just understand each other and clicked from the start,” recalls Brittany. “The subject of fashion works well for our particular styles, everything fluid and easy in the ways our lines and colors cross.” Helen agrees, explaining the theme and purpose of their upcoming exhibition. “The idea is to show history through fashion- or fashion throughout history– with our artwork depicting eras that we admire.” Once called a sophisticated naïve artist, Helen has given the gift of art to the world since she first held a paintbrush and palette, a young girl prompted by her mother to attend an art 10 PA L M B E A C H G A R D E N S L I V I N G | A U G U S T 2 0 2 5
