Palm Beach Gardens Living - August 2025

RV living has become a dream come true for many retirees who want to explore, downsize, and trade yard work for national parks. But is it right for you? At the end of 2023, my husband and I sold everything and downsized to a 35-foot, Class A motorhome named Mimi. FIRST, THE PERKS: • Adventure on demand: Want to wake up by the beach one week and in the mountains the next? That part is great considering the time of year. • No lawn to mow: Say goodbye to home maintenance and hello to marshmallow roasting. • Minimalist magic: Downsizing can be surprisingly freeing—you don’t need 12 spatulas, trust me. – Submitted by Kim Burger – • Built-in community: RV parks and campgrounds are full of friendly folks with great stories (and maybe even extra firewood). BUT LET’S BE REAL: • It’s cozy—really cozy. You and your partner must be okay with sharing about 200 square feet... all the time. • You’ll need a bit of mechanical know-how. Or at least a good roadside assistance plan. • Internet can be hit or miss. So, if Netflix is non- negotiable, I recommend Starlink. In the end, RV living isn’t for everyone, but for adventurous souls who crave freedom and don’t mind a few bumps in the road, it can be the ultimate retirement adventure. Life’s short—Make it the best, and if it isn't for you, that's when you can look into other senior options.
