Amongst the traditions of stuffing turkeys, lighting candles, and wrapping presents lies a day of worldwide significance that calls humanity together. OnDecember 2, the annual movement of GivingTuesday reimagines a world built upon shared humanity and the global power of radical generosity. A universal mission that launches transformational compassion and empathy, GivingTuesday propels generosity across six continents and countless cultures, including our Palm Beach County community. In fact, Florida’s first public college may be the perfect place for the viral generosity of GivingTuesday. A Palm Beach County future begins with students at Palm Beach State, delivering a pipeline of the community’s healthcare professionals, entrepreneurs, emergency responders, expert technicians, and others since 1933. Moreover, when you give to Palm Beach State, you’re supporting a student’s academic success and personal well-being, including the ability to not only see a doctor but also become a doctor. The Foundation for Palm Beach State is often the driving force behind what the College delivers, not only for students but also to the community. With a myriad of partners who share in this vision to improve lives through giving, the Foundation has long embraced the extraordinary reach of GivingTuesday. Why give on GivingTuesday? Throughout the year, we live by “do days” – those that urge us to do something specific: drink green beer, gaze at fireworks, give chocolate hearts to loved ones. Throw in waiting for a groundhog to see its shadow, and GivingTuesday’s looking pretty special, a day that urges us not to do but to do good. By giving to the Foundation, you enhance your program of choice, from healthcare to the arts to trades to the first responders who keep us safe. Because of your generosity and the benefit of higher – By Dean Glorioso – PBSC Graduates 2025 (Photo courtesy of Carol McDonald) education, there exists a better future for our young people and the economic prosperity of the community. Whether time, money, or wisdom, we all have a gift to give. But don’t take this as we need to break the bank to be generous. Hospitality, mentorship, community service, and anything considered an act of kindness can qualify as generosity. All we need is the right mindset – a growth mindset, a generosity mindset. Philanthropy comes in many forms, and generosity does not live in our wallets nor does it live exclusively in our hearts. Rather, it often comes from a mindset of generosity – to do, act, and be a difference maker for others, proving the adage that people give to people. We often see content “going viral” via the World Wide Web: a Taylor Swift video, cats playing the piano, or random acts of kindness. If those acts and radical generosity truly become infectious, then GivingTuesday’s job is done – thanks to and because of you. Created in 2012, GivingTuesday follows Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday as a day that encourages people to think global and give local. GivingTuesday provides the ideal vehicle for viral generosity, and the best place to start is in our own backyard. That’s the essence of the Foundation for Palm Beach State College – a broad vision accompanied by a mission to serve the individual student and an entire community. For the Foundation, every day is GivingTuesday, the most generous day of the year. EXPERT CONTRIBUTOR TheMost Generous Day of theYear On GIVINGTUESDAY, THINK GLOBAL and GIVE LOCAL PBSC.EDU/FOUNDATION
