Dr. Gonzalez taught me how to be a humble one. Dr. Miskin taught me how to be a busy one.” Dr. Solanki is also quick to point out the many nurses, CNAs, and other members of the care team they have both worked with over the years, all of whom taught them what leadership looks like from the ground level, including Mary “Peggy” Anderson, ARNP with Trustbridge. “The people providing the care are the biggest teachers,” he explained. “Because, at the end of the day, they're the drivers of whatever leadership strategies you want to implement.” Those lessons have helped reinforce another principle that both physicians share: leadership requires presence. “Showing up matters so much more than it ever did,” Dr. Pathak said. That philosophy, he added, is particularly important to him in an increasingly digital world, where professional and personal interactions can easily become separated by screens. Showing up, listening, and acknowledging the people around you remain essential parts of building meaningful relationships. It is also at the heart of the advice Pathak gives younger generations. “People are not invisible,” Dr. Solanki added. Pathak encourages young people to recognize the individuals around them, whether it is someone emptying a trash can or a school crossing guard helping children safely across the street. Acknowledging those people, he believes, develops gratitude and the ability to connect with anyone. That emphasis on human connection may be one of the clearest threads running through the careers of both physicians. Their work is obviously rooted in medicine, but their leadership has been shaped by something broader: the people they have encountered along the way. Patients have taught them humility. Colleagues have taught them collaboration. Mentors have provided examples to follow. And their own experiences have prepared them to become mentors themselves.
