Each day we begin with a blank canvas. You may indeed have a number of appointments, meetings, calls to make, emails to send, and presentations to make-the list goes on and on, all of which will fill up the calendar. After all, leadership carries a huge weight. And so I ask: How Can We Make Today Your Masterpiece? Recently, I wrote a book called “MAKE TODAY YOUR MASTERPIECE—The art of creating greater value in people”. In it, I advocate that your masterpiece is defined at the end of the day, when you reflect on the events and ask yourself, who did I inspire to change today? Did I invest my time in developing a team member? How did I encourage someone today? Did I really listen to this person? Did someone feel valued, seen, and understood when they interacted with me today? You see, your masterpiece is created when you POUR into someone in your sphere of influence. Your Masterpiece will always be about others. I believe everything starts with Purpose— Your Why. When you reflect on the day and can honestly admit you made a difference today, you added value to someone, and they are better, you then created your Masterpiece. My mentor and friend John Maxwell said it best: “When I die, I cannot take with me what I have, but I can live on in others through what I gave.” That is your masterpiece. When you pour into someone today, you help create a better tomorrow for them. Yesterday ended at midnight; it was too late to change it. But today is yesterday’s tomorrow. Somebody is out there waiting for you to be their somebody. You are not just passing through when you are intentional about adding value and making a difference in other lives.
