Since then, Spero has focused on the moving and storage business by starting his first company in North Carolina almost 25 years ago before coming back to South Florida with Good Greek in 2000. Spero has been a natural-born leader since his days playing quarterback, even if he didn’t realize it at the time. “I didn’t see myself as a leader because I was a young boy,” Spero said. “But apparently the coaches saw that and I took to it pretty quickly.” It was two of his coaches in particular, who had the biggest impact on him at that point in his life, his high school coach and his junior high coach. “My high school coach Charlie Glass and my junior high coach Artie Cox had the biggest impact on me during my time playing sports,” Spero said. “They recognized me before I recognized myself. I was trying to find my way as a young man. They not only recognized me as an athlete but as a quarterback and a leader, and that made me feel special.” It was at that point when he also learned that things aren’t always as cut and dry as they seem, and it’s ok to challenge things and be an independent thinker. “Quite often I would change the play that the offensive coach would send in and that would get him a bit miffed,” Georgedakis added. “But, as I grew more confident in my role as a quarterback and a leader, I began questioning some of the coach’s decisions and making my own because I knew what it took to win. I had also earned the respect of my teammates and they would follow my lead and change of plays, which were usually the right call.” Being an independent thinker and being able to identify talent are just a few of the things that Spero has taken from the football field and applied to his professional life as well. “The things that I have learned and have applied in my 25 years as a CEO are that a great CEO has to have a clear vision for his company, you have to be a rainmaker in the organization, and you have to be able to identify talent,” Spero said. “And it’s not just identifying talent, it’s also knowing what seat to put that person in on the bus.” Spero continues to incorporate his love of sports, specifically football, into his professional life. He has long worked with the Miami Dolphins, the Jacksonville Jaguars, the University of Miami Hurricanes, Florida International University, and the World Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers as their Official Mover. Good Greek handles all the transportation of the football team’s equipment to and from each game throughout the United States, as well as being a sponsor. Georgedakis has branched out beyond football too. He also works with the Miami HEAT of the NBA, the Florida Panthers of the NHL, The Miami Marlins of MLB, and Inter Miami CF of the MLS as the Offical Mover handling personnel and equipment moves. At the end of the day though, it’s those lessons he learned on the football field that continue to shape the way he does his business today. "The quarterback is like the coach on the field; the field general," Spero said.
