He retired from the Bulls the year after his father was murdered to play minor league baseball in an attempt to play in the majors. Two years previously, his father told him to play baseball. He humbled himself by leaving a sport that he dominated to take a chance on a new career. He failed. So what? He had no regrets because he wasn’t afraid to try something new. He returned to the Bulls to win 3 more NBA Championships. What a great lesson to learn. You will fail during your life, everyone does. Don’t stop trying though. There are many lessons to be learned by watching successful athletes ply their trade. Sports are highly entertaining, both for the viewer and the participants. Memories of athletes overcoming the odds, working hard, their competitive nature, their mindset, and so on, can translate into future success in our lives, families, and careers. Michael Jordan is perhaps the GOAT of the NBA. He is a once-in-a-generation athlete. Let me ask you a question. Where do you think Jordan learned his work ethic? I’d venture to guess that his journey through youth sports was the beginning for him. Youth sports teaches important lessons about life. This brings me to one of the premises of North County Sports. We believe that the lessons one learns playing youth sports, the wins and losses, shape our habits and who we become. By highlighting local athletes, male and female, in all sports we believe we can raise the awareness that participation in youth sports goes way beyond the sheer enjoyment of playing a sport.
