Related Ross was formally established less than two years ago, carved out from Related Companies, the global real estate firm Ross founded in 1972 in New York City. Its roots in Palm Beach County, however, stretch back decades. “Steve started investing here 30 years ago,” Eric said. “His first big investment was actually CityPlace.” That early bet on downtown West Palm Beach was not without challenges, though. “He’s the first one to tell you he was probably 20-plus years too early,” Silagy added, noting the financial crisis and years of iteration that followed. “But he never lost his belief in West Palm Beach.” Today, that belief is fueling a dramatic expansion. “We’ve gone from an organization that probably had no more than a dozen full-time employees down here to one that’s now over 170 and counting,” Silagy said. Silagy is careful to distinguish Related Ross from traditional real estate developers. “We’re a multifaceted real estate developer,” he said. “But what we’re really focused on is building a vibrant and sustainable community.” That means looking beyond buildings to the systems that make a city function, such as education, healthcare, transportation, and workforce housing. “Any great city has been anchored by really world-class education institutions,” Silagy added. “And we’re focused on those areas that really define a community.” That vision includes major investments such as the Cleveland Clinic’s new hospital and research center in West Palm Beach, a Vanderbilt University graduate campus,
