12 W E S T PA L M B E A C H | J A N U A R Y 2 0 2 6 BUSINESS PROFILE - By Dan Hauser - F For over 100 years, U & Me Moving has been part of the fabric of Palm Beach County—quietly, reliably carrying families, businesses, and entire communities from point A to point B. Today, owner Ryan Spencer represents the fourth generation to lead the company, a role that grew naturally out of a legacy that started in 1923. Ryan’s great-grandfather originally moved down from Deland and “followed Flagler like a lot of business people did.” What began as a cartage business—“unloading trunks from the railways and delivering them to the Breakers Hotel as well as houses on Palm Beach”— eventually transitioned into a full residential moving company as West Palm and Palm Beach expanded. Today, U & Me Moving offers a wide spectrum of services. “We’re a full-service moving company,” Spencer said. “We can handle anything from moving a couch down the street to coming in and doing a full pack—boxing of fragile, crating of artwork, storage. We can move you down the street or across the country.” Their West Palm Beach warehouse includes full air-conditioned storage, accommodating anything from “a couple days of storage on a truck to multiple years for a house build.” The company is also deeply embedded in large-scale development projects. “We are working with a few contractors right now that are building high rises in downtown and West Palm,” Ryan added. U & Me receives building materials into its warehouse and coordinates distribution “when they need pallets of wood or different plumbing fixtures.” While Palm Beach County remains the company’s core market, its reach extends widely. “Our niche is Palm Beach County, but we can really serve anything and anyone in the tri-county area—Miami-Dade, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach County, and up into Martin.” Long-distance moves are also part of the business, with one condition: “As long as the origin or destination is South Florida, we can handle it.” For generations, the business has also maintained a strong community presence, working with organizations such as the Boys & Girls Club, where Spencer’s father served on the board for a decade, and the Girl Scouts, whose cookie distribution the company has supported for more than 50 years. It’s one of the many reasons why Ryan believes U & Me Moving’s longevity is rooted in its people. “Our experience and longevity in the community set the business apart,” he said, “But really a testament to that is our employees.” In fact, many have been with the company for decades, giving U & Me a depth of knowledge and consistency uncommon in the industry. Customers also deal directly with the Spencer family. “You’re dealing with my dad and me,” Ryan added. “There’s no beating around the bush when it comes to decision-making. We stand behind our work.” Word-of-mouth remains the company’s strongest growth engine. “Residents, homeowners, and business owners are really our best advertisers,” Spencer said. “We don’t do a whole lot of advertising, but word of mouth is how we’ve stayed in business for so long.” Leadership, for Spencer, is rooted in responsibility. “Leadership is taking responsibility for the successes and well-being of the people we lead,” he said. “I take a lot of pride in the people that we lead on a day-to-day basis.” He emphasizes integrity, accountability, and empathy, qualities he considers nonnegotiable. “There are a lot of ways to move a couch from point A to point B, but doing it the right way usually involves a little more preparation.” After more than a century, U & Me Moving is still built on the same principles that began with a great-grandfather and evolved through four generations: integrity, personal service, and the kind of community trust that can only be earned the hard way—by showing up, century after century, move after move.
