Miller Medical Center, a transformative new hospital, opened for patient care in May 2026. The brand-new hospital is named after the Founder & Executive Chairman of Universal Health Services, who served as the company’s CEO for 42 years before transitioning leadership responsibilities to Marc D. Miller in January 2021. Alan B. Miller graciously sat down with us to share his perspectives. Q: You come from humble beginnings. Tell us about your early years. A: My father owned a dry-cleaning store in Brooklyn, New York, and my mother worked in the millinery district, commuting to Manhattan. My parents taught me hard work from a very young age, but we often struggled financially. As a youth, I enjoyed playing sports and was a Boy Scout. At the age of 13, I began working as a stock boy for the neighborhood grocery store, and on weekends, I delivered telegrams by bicycle for Western Union. I was a good student and an accomplished athlete. A New Destination For Healthcare The Miller family at the groundbreaking: Alan B.
