It has been about responsibility — to community, to mission, and to people who are often navigating systems that were never designed with them in mind. That belief has shaped his work as President and CEO of the Urban League of Palm Beach County, where he oversees an organization focused on economic empowerment, workforce development, education, and advocacy. Under his leadership, the Urban League has expanded its reach while remaining anchored in its core mission of helping individuals and families achieve self‑sufficiency. “We were founded to serve African Americans,” Franklin explained. “But as time and who needs our help and services have evolved, our doors are open to everyone.” As CEO, Franklin oversees a broad portfolio of services, from job training and career placement to financial literacy and housing stability. At the center of that mission is housing stability. Franklin describes housing not as a single transaction, but as a long- term process that requires education, patience, and trust. “How do we put a roof over your head, how do we keep a roof over your head, and, if for some reason you lose that roof, how do we move you on?” That work frequently extends far beyond initial contact. The organization works extensively with first-time homebuyers, renters, and families at risk of displacement, sometimes for years. “We’ve worked with families for five to six years to prepare them to become homeowners,” Franklin noted. “As long as they are willing to stay engaged with us, we will be with them until the end.” Financial literacy is a critical part of that equation. Franklin points to budgeting and financial education as foundational tools. “The crux of a lot of our issues over the years has been not knowing, not having any knowledge on budgeting,” he added. Workforce development is another major pillar of the Urban League’s mission.
