A Jacksonville native, Sellers first arrived at Florida State in the mid-1960s, ready to insert himself into an FSU football offense that matched the one he played in high school. What followed, though, was a college and pro career that included stops with the New England Patriots, Dallas Cowboys, and Miami Dolphins, a laundry list of accolades, including a Super Bowl title, and, maybe even most importantly, a lifetime of lessons about preparation, discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. At Florida State, where it all began, Sellers quickly established himself as one of the nation's premier receivers. He entered college determined to challenge the NCAA receiving record set by his future teammate Howard Twilley at Tulsa—and ultimately accomplished that goal as a senior. After college, Sellers set his sights on the pro ranks, getting drafted 16th overall by the New England Patriots in the 1969 draft. After three in New England, he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys, where he played for one season, with great success, before ending up in Miami with the Dolphins, the team with which he would win his lone Super Bowl ring.
